the blackout zone

there is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to men. it is a dimension as heavy as led and as light as feathers. it is the wobbly ground between solid and stable, between falling and flying, and it lies between the bottom of one fifty one, and the liver of his/her imagination. this is the dimension of spirits. it is an area which we call.................THE BLACKOUT ZONE.

something about something on class

my mind is some where else and i am finding it very hard to concentrate on the homework at hand. it is so hard to concentrate on something that doesn't mean anything to you. i find myself replaying family guy episodes in my head instead of actually remembering the material i am supposed to be reading. i will start to read the article/story and by the time i have gotten to the bottom of the page i have no idea what i have read. it might be A.D.D it might be something else.

i read both of the articles, "What is an academic paper" and "How to write consistently boring literature" and i can honestly say i have no idea what they are about except that when you write an academic paper it is for academic peers to read and it should be read by the academic community and discussed. the audience is for people in the academic field.

1) hillary Clinton was very funny and witty on her response.
2) it is a comical reaction.

analysis paragraph

some key features for an analysis paper would be to find background information on the topic. who created it and why? what is it about? and how did you interpret it? the purpose of the topic.

online ethnography website

this is the link to the website in which i found my example of an ethnography paper written about my topic.

http://bjc.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/content/short/48/1/116?rss=1

topic sentence worksheet

Thesis-
the gang culture in America needs to be regulated in order to ensure the safety of our nations youth.

First topic-
what draws teen youth to join gangs?

Second topic-
what constitutes a gang?

Third topic-
what was the average childhood of a gang member?

Conclusion-
unless law enforcement or the community set up programs and preventative aid for troubled youth the gangs in America will continue to grow.

class structure

  • i feel that it is helping me in my research and amount of content i put into my assignments. i get to work on my own time schedule and on my own pace. i dont feel rushed and i enjoy the freedom.
  • yes, i believe it is a benefit because i like to see what people think about my ideas. i dont mind anybody making comments on my submissions.
  • i am starting to understand it more now then i did before.
  • i highly recommend this structure over the regular structure. i feel that meeting one time a week for class is more than enough. i personaly do not enjoy english class nor do i enjoy writting so much. i realize it is a requierment for school and i must take it in order to pursue my goals but other than that i would never have taken this course. although i do enjoy reading.

definition paragraph

an educated person has the ability to use his intellectualism for the greater good of man kind. well educated people rarely result to violence when handling serious issues. "a mind is a terrible thing to waste", said by an educated person. educated people know right from wrong and usually become very wealthy due to their intelligence.

response to peer review

i think the review was semi helpful. i got some good ideas about how to better my paper, but i would rather hear it from the persons mouth instead of reading it from a piece of paper. i hope next time we can divide into groups and peer review each others papers and receive better results within the group.

interested subcultures

the two subcultures i am interested in writing about would be:
1) gangs
-what is the attraction for youth to join them?
-even thought they know the risks why do they still join?
-what is the gangs appeal?
-what is the meaning of the "sign's" they use with their hands?
-the reasons behind the colors and the way they dress?
2) goths
-what is the appeal to wearing all black and listening to a certain kind of music?
-what do they do for entertainment?
-how do they feel about what people think about them?
-are they angry?

project proposal

my paper will be on the over crowding of prison systems and how new ideas might be able to help our country deal with the growing number of inmates. i will start off the paper by suppling the reader with vital information about how crowded the prisons actually are and what we are doing about it today. then i will go into alternate ideas about how to deal with the growing numbers. the argument side will come from the idea that because these people have chosen to do what they did they have lost most of the rights that we as citizens have. the inmates are in affect, property of the government, therefore if the government wants to put the inmates in tents outside or send them to different countries to due their time, the inmates have no say in the matter. my paper will be truthful, shocking, and eye opening to the growing problem of an out of control prison population.

Summary

the prisons and jails in Australia are operating at 108 percent over capacity. the over crowding is having a huge affect on the mental health of the prisoners. the prisoners feel that they have no alone time and therefore it is affecting their lives in a negative way. it also has an affect on the pubic when the prisoner is released. the prisoners are complaining because they dont get to choose who their roommates are.

response

this article describes the overcrowding of australias prisons and the affects that is has on the mental health of the prisoners. i feel that prisoners have lost the right to decide where and who they room with. by committing crimes and ruining peoples lives i feel that they shouldnt have any rights at all. they have lost that ability to decide for themselves what is best.

final topic choice

i have chosen to make my final topic about alternate choices to house prisoners. my paper will consist of different ideas in which to house, control, and manage prisoners. it will also include opinions from people who believe prisoners should have more rights than they do now and that any other plans to change the way prisoners are dealt with is unconstitutional and e-moral.

essay reading page 582

i read the first essay on page 582. the title is called Just be nice

a clear and arguable position: i don't think he had a clear and arguable position because half way through reading the essay he started talking about something totally different than what was his thesis statement.

necessary background information: he had lots of good information but it wasn't keeping with his thesis. his essay in my opinion was all over the place.

good reasons: he might have had a lot of good reasons, but what are good reasons with out something to reason with.

convincing support for each reason: i dont believe he had convincing support for his reasons. he lost my interest halfway into the essay.

appeals to readers values: he didnt appeal to my values because he didnt structure his essay good enough. it is very hard for me to fallow a essay when it is all over the place with conflicting information.

a trustworthy tone: i didnt think he had a trust worthy tone. he didnt keep my interest and even if what he was saying was valid and would benefit my values, the way he set up his essay, i would not have supported him.

careful consideration of other positions: he tried to be considerate and did a good job at doing so. he made a point of including both arguments and i think he did a good job on this portion.

peer review

should peer review be open or anonymous?

i believe it should be open because then people might be able to give better feedback. they will know who they are commenting on therefore they might be able to put it in a way thats more understandable.

how much focus should be placed on low-order concerns such as grammar and punctuation?

i don't think any if not a little focus should be placed on these concerns. the grammar and punctuation can be altered by the computer and the main reason for the peer review is to make the authors work more structured in its message.

should a comment sheet be used?

i think a comment sheet would be helpful but i also believe that we should be able to write on topics we get to choose.

fake news

they all fit the "Fake News" genre because of the production of information and the manor in which it is presented. the tone in which these programs are projected are sarcastic and on occasion offensive, but always hilarious. it is this criteria that sets these shows up for success. i know i am certainly tired of the old depressing news programs that always leave me feeling upset and mad. i am glad a change like this has come so that i may at last enjoy the depressing and sad reality of news in a more humorous light.

audience, purpose, and design play a big role in the way i choose to write. i choose my style and how i will get my message out depending on who will be reading my material such as the audience. purpose is good because if i feel very strongly about a subject i am going to put more time and energy into making what i have to say important and everlasting. design is one of the biggest roles in my writing today because if design didn't matter i would turn in my work with a lot og spelling and paragraph errors.
